Would be nice to make use of Yoast breadcrumbs for SEO purposes as they support schema.org. This way it is also possible to have breadcrumbs on pages.

Still waiting on the UX team to fix this. Seems that they just don't care at all. Were you able to find a snippet for the functions.php to remove or replace their breadcrumbs with the better Yoast breadcrumbs?
